The water flow in the dam’s turbines produces electricity, known as pumped-storage hydropower in large scale dams. While on smaller scales, like rivers and streams, hydropower uses a channel to funnel water through, rather than powering it through a dam. Hydroelectric power does not generate pollution, and therefore is a much more environmentally-friendly energy option.
